Slow Advanced Sharpen Transform

Ever since I switched to PWP64 v6 I am wondering why the Advanced Sharpen transform is so slow. Everything else is really fast. But for some reason to process one image usually takes between 2 and 3 minutes even for a scan of <8 megapixel.
Are there some settings on my PC I can change to improve that?
Or: what are the main resources this transform needs such that I can upgrade on my machine to help here?
I am running Win7 64bit on an Intel Core2 Quad processor 2.5GHz, 8GB RAM.

Thanks for any clues

There are a number of technical reasons advanced sharpen is slow, especially for large radius values. Unfortunately this is pretty much unavoidable.

There is an entry in the Tip section of this message board suggesting a method for tweaking the settings to determine the optimal values by cropping out a subset of the input image and working with that. Once you determine the settings you want, switch the input image back to the full size version and click OK. In order for this to work well, the section of image you select must be representative of the entire image or the various histogram displays will be based on the subset of the full image.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I am actually very happy with how this transform works. I just got about 1000 scans of old slides my parents found in the attic and they all seem have a slight dusting of small round mold spots. I worked out setting that allow me to simply open the next image and hit OK. And after a few minutes I get a corrected image that is very very close. some need minor clone touch-ups but that's it.
2-3 minutes to make hundreds of spots go away like magic without loosing significant image quality is not too bad. I am just getting greedy... and I still have 950 images ahead of me.
It would be nice to have this transform in a Workflow. Is there a way to split the 3 tasks in a workflow that I can create? (especially the speck removal)
