Right Jim. I had initially thought that I should be seeing shifts in hue, but, for most of the cases I used, the shifts were insignificant.

The conversion from color to B&W is highly subjective. With color, we can adjust H, S, and V (frequently, just to simulate reality). B&W is more abstract – all we have to work with is V. Most photographers have their favorite approaches, but many regard each image as a special case for which...

The calculation changes S and V but H seems to remain the same or nearly the same. [S is decreased and V is increased.]

I should have mentioned that I performed the calculations on the RGB values and then converted to H, S, and V.

I frequently use the subtractive filter transformation with a mask to selectively recover detail in shadowed areas, and I became curious about the potential for color (hue) shifts. Okay, for a while I was receiving notifications for every post. Now, for the last two weeks, I have received nothing. I checked and found that I am still listed as being subscribed. Were it not for Tarleeka's post to the old board, I might have forgotten for a while longer.
